10 Things to Know About City of Orlando's Deal With UCF So Far (from this document):
- UCF will begin construction by August 1, 2016.
- The City is giving UCF Nearly $68 million in land, existing structures, realignment of Livingston and BRT project, Stormwater Improvements, Construction of Livingston Street from Terry Avenue to Parramore Avenue and more.
- Within that $68 million, $2,017,690 of it is lost revenue the city is giving up in the form of discounted parking given to UCF over five years. UCF will lease the 603-space Centroplex I Parking Garage for five years with option to renew for 3 additional 1-year periods. UCF will pay the City rent of $1 per space per year for 300 spaces, and $52.50 per space per month for 303 spaces (which equals $15,907.50 per month and is 50% of the current unlimited rate at the Centroplex I Garage).
- On its first day, the campus will serve approximately 7,700 students.
- The UCF campus is 16 acres. The Creative Village in total is 68 acres.
- Housing, parking and recreational facilities would be planned to support the campus. It's unclear if this will be built on or off the 16 acre UCF campus.
- There will be a "Central Park." It will "be an active space" with a UCF building that faces it.
- UCF will supply bus shuttle service to the UCF Downtown Orlando Campus from its main campus.
- UCF is planning to provide a parking facility of approximately 600 spaces in conjunction with its first building phase. UCF anticipates needing additional parking capacity. The City and UCF will finalize a long-term "sustainable transportation and parking agreement."
- The Armory
is not safemight not be safe in the long run. It was designated an historic landmark in January 2016. Read about it here. The City will continue to maintain the building "until such time as UCF and the City mutually agree upon a solution for its future." The City and UCF will explore a "vision for enhancements" to the facility, including potential joint use through coordination with the City’s Families, Parks and Recreation department.
