Best Foot Forward has 3 methods to increase driver yield rates:
- Education in areas with a high rate of pedestrian injuries and fatalities
- Engineering improvements like street lighting, pavement markings and signals
- Enforcement
The third method is being put into action February 10th when Best Food Forward executes a "crosswalk crackdown." OPD and OCSO law enforcement go undercover to see if drivers stop at designated crosswalks near schools. Drivers who fail to yield will be speeding toward a $164 ticket and three points on their license.
