Rollins Dance Team Seeking Increase in Funding

(EDITED 4/21/16)

Rollins College Dance Team has a petition online asking for signatures to support their effort to get $20,000 in funding to support the costs of the dance team.

Last year they raised over $5,000 on their own including the school dues that Rollins charges the dancers to participate on the dance team. They used that for all their expenses.

The current dance team season is over.

Rollins gave the team $1,500 for expenses for next year.

They're asking for the following funding for next year:

  1. $15,000 to pay their coach $15/hour for 24 hours per week
  2. $5,000 team funding

The petition will be a tool to show community support for the $20K when they meet with school leaders soon.

From the Petition:
  • The Rollins Dance Team has been a program struggling to gain traction at Rollins College for the past 5 years. The mission of the Rollins Dance Team is to represent Rollins at campus and community events while building school spirit through the art of dance. This organization has created a team that is dedicated to dance technique, Rollins College and the Winter Park and Orlando community.
  • This year has been by far the most successful year of the team. We have 12 strong women who have raised all the resources necessary to represent Rollins in a positive light. Rollins College has received countless forms of exposure through our performances within the community and on campus. We have performed at events like Rollins basketball games, an Orlando Solar Bears Hockey Game, an Orlando Magic Basketball Game, and the Winter Park Christmas Parade just to name a few.
  • In effort to sustain and scale this program our successes have been shared with key stakeholders at Rollins including the President and the Athletic Director. When it comes to funding and recognition Rollins has left us feeling ignored and unappreciated. Help us sustain this program by signing this petition so we can continue to share our creativity, our passion for dance, and our Rollins spirit.
