Free stress-reduction ear accupincture treatments

Free stress-reduction ear accupincture treatments will be offered on a walk-in basis at the following times:

June 17, 5 – 7 PM, Stonewall Bar, 741 West Church Street, Orlando, 32805

June 18, 11 AM – 3 PM, Florida College of Integrative Medicine, Rooms 2 & 3, 7100 Lake Ellenor Drive, Orlando, 32809

The 30-minute, community-style treatments stimulate pressure points in the outer ears with placement of tiny, sterile, one-time use acupuncture needles or very small magnetic beads. The treatments, which will be provided in a group setting by licensed and certified practitioners, help people sleep better and feel calm and centered after stressful events.

People who are treated typically feel a tiny pinch when the needles go in, which quickly subsides, and gives way to an experience of deep, peaceful relaxation, and often reduction in physical pain. For those who prefer not to be treated with needles, treatment with the magnetic beads is also highly effective.

This effort is spearheaded by Florida-licensed acupuncturists Michelle Alley and Steve Shomo, collaborating with Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB), The Florida College of Integrative Medicine (FCIM), The Florida State Oriental Medical Association (FSOMA), Colorado Acupuncture Medical Reserve Corps (CAMRC), The National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) and Global Outreach Doctors (GODocs). It is sponsored by a consortium of Oriental medical schools, including Orlando’s Florida College of Integrative Medicine, and ADC LTD NM.

Acupuncturists Without Borders Founder Diana Fried explains "When people have experienced significant stress their nervous systems can become stuck in a state of fight-or-flight, making it difficult for them to sleep, eat, think, and sometimes even speak. Stress also has physiological impacts that make if more difficult to function well. This treatment is remarkably effective at resetting the nervous system so that a person can recover more quickly from the impact of stressful events."
