How it Works - Fireworks at the Fountain



The annual “Fireworks at the Fountain” event is the largest 1-day event hosted at Lake Eola Park. According to the City, it has significant economic impact on the Downtown area. 

How is it put together? Who does what? We read the contract and found out. 

Cox Media Group will have the "Fireworks at the Fountain" contract for 2016, 2017 and 2018. 

According to the City, "no other locally based media group has the same resources to produce and publicize this event."

Cox pays the City of Orlando $40,000 for 2016, $41,500 for 2017 and $42,500 for 2018. 

Cox Media Group provides: 
  1. Promotion 
  2. Event management
  3. Event Planning 
  4. Event Set up 
  5. Live musical act & licenses. 
  6. On air radio promotions on all six (6) COX Media Group stations
  7. The production and playing of prerecorded PSA's
  8. Live on-air interviews
  9. On the day of the event, Cox will bring multiple stations'  promotions staff, air personalities and giveaways. 
  10. Provide a Television partnership

The City provides: 
  1. fireworks show
  2. Lake Eola Bandshell and Park
  3. power, lighting and sound
  4. Permits
  5. City fire and police services 
  6. Clean-up 
  7. Parking areas and coordination
  8. Extra security 
  9. Trash cans
  10. Barricades and street closure

Who profits?
  1. Cox Media Group gets all the money from Sponsorship, Concessions and Event Fees.
  2. The City gets $40,000 from Cox Media Group and in-kind sponsorships from non-profits, OUC, DDB and Fiesta in the Park Committee
