Orlandos New Billion Dollar Farm-Hood to Have Edible Walking Trails, 9 Acre Farm and More

Orange County Commissioners approved plans for a $1 billion 2,078-home development called The Grow (Website) just east of the 408 off SR 50 according to Orlando Business Journal.

It's known as an Agri-Hood and begins construction Summer 2017.

The Grow will include the following:

  • 9 acre revenue-generating working farm - A team of agriculturists manage and maintain the land to grow an array of foods for the community, farm-and-table restaurant, local vendors and more. The farm also serves as an educational venue for schools and social groups to attend programs created by the agriculturists to learn about plants, soils and farming techniques.
  • 21 acres of community gardensThese gardens are integrated into the neighborhoods for residents to grow their own vegetables, fruits or flowers. Residents will have the educational support of the on-site agriculturists.
  • Edible walking trailsHike through the community while gathering fruits, berries, nuts and more.
  • weekly farmers market The Grow holds weekly farmer’s markets at the town center for residents to buy and sell goods from the gardens and farm.
  • equestrian facility
  • pastoral spaces
  • fishing ponds
  • lush wetlands
Residential estate lots, or “Farmettes”, with homes on the inside of the 100 foot thick natural vegetative buffer are up to one acre in area and measure at least 150 feet wide. This lot width is consistent with neighboring parcels just outside of The Grow.

Adjacent newer communities have an average of 4 homes per community acre. The Grow has 2.49 homes per community acre.

The architectural aesthetics of the homes will mimic 1940s rural homes and farm houses.
