A new craft beer & package store called Whippoorwill (Website) is in the works for the Milk District at 2425 E. South Street (MAP) according to documents filed with the City. The owners of the 2,160 sq ft bar filed a Conditional Use Permit request to allow a bar to operate in an existing multi-tenant building, 850 ft. from an existing church. This project is tentatively scheduled for a public hearing at the Municipal Planning Board on June 20, 2017.
Equal parts neighborhood bar and package store, the facility will offer beverage service including retail wine and beer sales. The building in which it will reside was built in 1952. The owners plan to gut the interior to add new HVAC, electrical, plumbing and bathrooms, but keep the original terrazzo flooring.
No liquor, loud music or smoking will be allowed.
