Car-Cophony May Stop at Hood-Wrecking Senior Center

The L Claudia Allen Senior Center at 1840 Mable Butler Avenue, a multi-purpose building open 9am to 6pm, schedules a litany of activities and rents our several rooms Monday through Saturday every week, much to the dismay of the neighbors who live in the Johnson Village neighborhood. Attendees of Doo-Wop Birthday Party, Hooks and Stitches and Zumba are zooming through the quiet streets, parking in front of the homes and causing a general nuisance for the residents.

And it's not just classes that draw the traffic. This center rents out multi-purpose rooms, an Auditorium, Kitchen, Computer lab, Fitness room and Shuffleboard courts to people for all sorts of uses Monday thru Saturday. This is the Times Square for area Seniors and these neighborhood families are the victims.

Johnson Village neighbors are not happy.

The City wants 30 more parking spaces to help with the madness so they're planning on using the site of a former home at 1826 Mable Butler Ave they bought for $60,000 and bulldozed in 2015 as a new parking lot. It's right next to one of the Center's TWO (2) parking lots. It will be combined with the existing lot.

The parking lot debacle-solving plan goes before the Municipal Planning Board October 17th.

The cause of all the noise and car-parking nightmares: the L Claudia Allen Senior Center

This is an insane amount of activities. Insane.
