Noor Salman Trial Parking Permit Should be for Media Only Says City Staff

The City has begun preparing for the Noor Salman trial to be held next week starting March 1 at the Orlando Federal Courthouse. City staff has recommended approval of a Temporary Use Permit to have a a media parking area on a corner of property owned by Hughes Inc. The property is west of the Federal Courthouse on a block bound by Washington St, N. Division Ave, Grove Park Dr and N. Terry Ave.

The staff-approved layout of the media parking area (see below) includes two camera platforms, parking area for eight media vans, dumpsters, two porta-potties and a satellite truck area. The colors refer to: platform (orange), tents/trailers for media (yellow and red), generators and lights (purple), parking (green), dumpster (blue) and porta-potties (light green).

The property owner also wanted the temporary use permit to include a larger parking area was also requesting the Temporary Use permit to include parking for courthouse employees, visitors and for general downtown parking. He also requested that the permit last one year.

City staff's recommendation is to allow only media parking on the north block, and no general or courthouse employee or visitor parking whatsoever on any portion of the north block.

The request goes before City Council February 26th.
