Arts and the Economy: Julie Norris

"How will the recent economic events affect
you, your org, and/or your industry?"

Julie Norris
Co-Proprietor, Dandelion Communitea Cafe

The current economic collapse is a natural and expected outcome of the loss of connection between people, communities and our environment. As the current structure disintegrates, we will rebuild and rebirth it in a way that is supportive of people & planet, this is not a wish, but the only way humanity will be able to ensure it's long term survival with a chance at a healthy & happy quality of life. The authentic values that are at the foundation of my cafe are ones that resonate with people and in comparison to what I hear about chain restaurants, our business is holding steady. I expect this economic correction to continue to strengthen our cafe as people discover that supporting a local business that emphasis their health and our planets are good investments as part of their newfound wellness care (organic healthy food is the best preventative healthcare around) and understanding that local self-reliance is the most sustainable economic solution when you are not at the mercy of volatile markets for your basic needs of nutrition and energy. This current situation was inevitable, it's just a darn shame that the people who live in this country have been used by corporate america due to their misplaced focus on profit without regard for people & the very foundation upon which our entire economic system relies - our environment.
