The Art in Public Places Commission of the City of Longmont, Colorado, is seeking a creative approach for the southwest entryway to the City that will enhance the space while welcoming visitors to Longmont . The artwork must be experienced on some level by the motorist driving by at 70 mph or the bicyclist or pedestrian who may slow down to take a closer look. This piece will state “Now I’m entering (or leaving) Longmont .”
The AIPP Commission is seeking an artist or team of artists to design, develop, fabricate, and install a creative solution to one of the city’s major entryways. The successful approach may incorporate artwork, landform art, and landscape design elements that blend the natural beauty of existing views with historical elements of the site to provide a sense of invitation and welcome to the Longmont community. Any variety of materials may be incorporated, but the project in its entirety must be permanent in timelessness and materials. The budget is $225,000 all inclusive.
Deadline: October 30, 2008
