I got a note sent to me about Target carrying Loomstate, an eco-friendly brand of clothing. With it being Earth Day, I thought it was worth a mention.
"The Loomstate for Target collection was created with a commitment to an environmentally responsible future - all of the cotton used in the Target collection is 100 percent certified organic."Sounds great, but I don't know what it means and I know nothing about "eco-friendly." So I asked an expert: Julie Norris, owner of Dandelion Communitea and member of Ourlando.
"It's awesome when large companies pay attention to consumer demand, and hopefully they will see a positive impact of this limited-time-only campaign enough to carry organic clothing year-round, not just when the press is good around earth day. According to Loomstate's website, the factories they use have high environmental and labor standards (but they do not indicate Made in the USA or cite any third party certifying agents for fair trade), and the cotton itself comes from various regions of the world such as Turkey, Peru, Africa, India and the USA. The greenest product Target could offer would be sourced & manufactured in the USA exclusively. If you really want to support the earth, host a clothing swap or shop at a thrift store, and avoid big box stores that are the primary supporters of manufacturing, sourcing and transportation that contribute to the degradation of our earth and it's inhabitants."
