Jim Covey has been an actor and variety performer for Disney for 15 years now.
In August he was in his hometown in West Virginia. He'd flown up there because his mom had suffered a slight stroke. On August 3, 2009, after visiting his mother in the hospital. Jim and his 85 year old father were traveling home, A young woman crossed the center line on this two lane country road and hit their car head-on. Jim managed to turn the car just enough to, in all probability, save his father's life. In what we know to be a miracle, an ambulance had been following Jim and his father. Jim was pinned in the car as it had crumpled around him. His father was moved to an arriving ambulance. After about half an hour and the "jaws of life" being implemented, so was Jim. This crash closed the road for two hours.
His father received six broken ribs, a sternum broken in three places, and a great deal of damage to his left leg. He's been in intensive care twice and is still hospitalized. Jim suffered a broken hip, three broken toes, and was pretty cut up by the broken glass. He's undergone surgery for the hip and now is healing with a plate and six screws in place. As Jim’s wife Colleen says “The road to recovery will be long but we are grateful to God and all our friends and colleagues for their love and support.”
On Wednesday, September 30, 2009, Jim’s friends and fellow performers from the central Florida area, along with Sleuths Mystery Dinner Theatre present Comedy Cares, The Benefit for Jim Covey.
A $10 donation gets you in the door and all proceeds go to help the Covey Family with mounting Medical Bills. The show starts at 8 PM at Sleuths on International drive. Come out for a night of Comedy, entertainment, love and support.
