Rock Of Ages Broadway National Tour in Orlando

Thanks to a free ticket from Broadway Across America, the presenter of the tours that come through here, I got to attend the Orlando opening night of the Rock of Ages National Tour, and it's opening night party, January 11, 2011. Watch the video above for some fun stuff.

The show is a stripper bar-full of fun! I took my friend Chris who loves musicals more than breathing and we had a blast. We showed up with time enough to slum around the lobby. At the tour's merch booth, a kiosk selling various products and apparel branded with the show's logo, Chris found something creative: a spiked bracelet with the entire cast recording loaded onto a USB drive inside.

When we walked into the theatre, the stage curtain was open revealing the entire set: a huge and spectacular recreation of a 1980s Los Angeles dive bar. Our seats were 15 rows back and dead center. Perfect view.

If you love late 80s early 90s heavy metal and rock, you'll love the trip down memory lane Rock of Ages provides. The show rocked from beginning to end with loud 1980s rock anthems, an ungodly attractive, limber and talented cast, simple story, and a dead-charming lead in Constantine Maroulis.

FYI: Some of the costumes, dancing and language may not be appropriate for kids under the age of 14.

The show will play Tuesday, January 11 through Sunday, January 16, 2011 with evening performances at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, a Saturday matinee at 2:00 p.m., a Sunday matinee at 1:00 p.m., and a Sunday evening performance at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $38 and can be purchased online, by calling 1-800-982-2787, or at the FAIRWINDS Broadway Across America Orlando Box Office, Amway Centre Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations.
