Dead Prez will play The Social next Wednesday, August 17th, with Lazy Afternoon and DJ Kittybat. Get your tickets here.

I've been watching the riots unfold in London this week with no small degree of sadness. I was born and raised in Enfield, where the violence reached on Sunday night, and where the record distribution center was destroyed by fire. (On the plus side, we are also home to the world's first ATM!). It only makes me more angry to look at the photos, so I've been listening to Dead Prez and wishing their show was sooner than next Wednesday. M-1 and stic.man have been making furious, provocative, socially-aware rap music for over a decade, and I wouldn't be surprised if we found out that some of the looters and rioters were listening to one of the band's Turn Off the Radio mixtapes before going out. And I mean that as a complement!

Maybe you saw the band in Dave Chappelle's Block Party? You've almost certainly heard their song 'Hip Hop'. Their live shows are known to be raucous and energetic, and in a time when just about everything in the world stinks, it's going to be cathartic to see these guys do their thing.
