On April 30, 2013, the Vietnamese Community of Central Florida (VCCF), along with local Vietnam veterans, hosted a protest and ceremony to commemorate the 1975 fall of Saigon to the northern communists, known as Black April.
This event marked the beginning of the Vietnamese-American community in America, as millions fled the south to other countries. It was this event that led to the creation of Orlando's famous Vietnamese community, found at the intersection of Mills Ave and Colonial Drive.

The protesters Monday commemorated the millions who sacrificed their lives in the Vietnam war and those who died as boat refugees on their way to America.
