NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan in Central Florida

The annual NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan tips off on Thursday, Feb. 23, with the NBA FIT All-Star Youth Celebration for more than 500 local boys and girls at NBA All-Star Jam Session at the Orange County Convention Center.  Throughout the four-day Community Caravan – an effort highlighted by the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service on Friday, Feb. 24 – the NBA family, including All-Stars, NBA and WNBA players and legends, and NBA Development League players will join NBA executives, partners, and guests to work together on more than 25 hands-on service projects and activities designed to leave a lasting impact on Central Florida communities.

The NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan continues through Sunday, Feb. 26, with events including the first-ever NBA Cares Special Olympics Unity Sports Basketball Game, with support from The Coca-Cola Company, featuring Special Olympics athletes alongside NBA and WNBA players and legends.

Additional highlights include Dribble to Stop Diabetes clinics in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association and Sanofi US; a visit with pediatric patients and families at the Florida Hospital for Children led by NBA legends and WNBA players; the 14th annual NBA/NWBA All-Star Wheelchair Classic; a Special Olympics basketball clinic; and a wheelchair basketball clinic.  Throughout NBA All-Star, NBA players will also treat four children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation and their families to unforgettable experiences.

For the fifth consecutive year, the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service will highlight the NBA Cares All-Star Community Caravan as more than 1,500 members of the NBA family, including the East and West NBA All-Star teams, will join community-based organizations, including Hands On Orlando, KaBOOM!, Rebuilding Together and Share Our Strength, and NBA marketing partners adidas, HP, Kia Motors and State Farm on Feb. 24 to create eight community legacy projects where kids and families can live, learn, or play.  Projects will include five home renovations, the creation of a new technology lab and refurbishment of a family center, meal service and food packaging, and the construction of a new playground.

During All-Star Weekend, the league will also provide more than 500 meals to Central Florida families and encourage fans to take the Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® pledge at NBA All-Star Jam Session and online.  In addition, as part of the league’s ongoing support of our nation’s military, the NBA will host more than 350 local service men and women at events throughout All-Star Weekend, including the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge, NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by State Farm, and the NBA All-Star Game.
