Jimm Roberts, James Rosenquist and Anne Beattie Make Rare Appearances at Orlando Museum of Art

The Orlando Museum of Art (Orlando Loch Haven Park at 2416 North Mills Ave., Orlando, Floridais commemorating its final "Made in Florida" exhibition by providing rare appearances from prominent artists and authors Jimm Roberts, James Rosenquist and Anne Beattie over the coming weekend.

Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 at 2pm
James Rosenquist, renowned around the world for his role in developing the pop-art movement, will present a lecture on his extraordinary career and sign books at the OMA.

Jimm Roberts’ Florida Art & Artists Day will be proclaimed during a special, private reception at OMA. Roberts’ will receive a surprise proclamation from the City of Orlando recognizing the date as a city-wide holiday acknowledging Roberts’ and other Florida artists’ contributions to our local culture and society. The Jimm Roberts’ Florida Art & Artists Day Proclamation was signed by City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.

Celebrated short story author and novelist Ann Beattie participates in a roundtable discussion with local art and literary experts Jimm Roberts, Rita Bornstein, Hansen Mulford, Maurice J. “Socky” O’Sullivan and Jerry N. Uelsman moderated by Chauncey Mabe at the OMA.

The final exhibition is called "Southernmost Art and Literary Portraits: Photographs of 50 Internationally Noted Artists and Writers in Florida by Jimm Roberts." In this exhibition, Orlando-based portrait photographer Jimm Roberts shares his photo and correspondence collection from his travels throughout Florida in the 1980’s and 1990's. During that time, he had the opportunity to meet, interview and photograph Florida’s most influential cultural icons. Featured in the exhibition are James Rosenquist, Ann Beattie, John Chamberlain, Duane Hanson, Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Carl Hiaasen and James Merrill, among others.
