Suspicious Package at Orlando Premium Outlet; The Video That Fox35 and CFNews13 Was Told NOT To Take
A maintenance worker at the Orlando Premium Outlet- Vineland Ave noticed a suspicious package in an area backstage between the mall and the parking garage around 3:30p. Unable to recognize the package he alerted authorities and the area was closed. Orange County deputies shut down nearly half the mall and a large section of the parking lot as a safety precaution while they determined if the package was a threat.
Just as we arrived so did CFNews13 and WOFL Fox 35. The police had the road between the garage and the GAP stand alone store closed so all three of us parked in the GAP store parking area. As the camera men began to setup security immediately came over and asked them to leave, CFNews 13 promptly listened while the Fox 35 camera man attempted to continue filming causing a second security officer to arrive. Our cameras continued to roll as both stations were forced to turn theirs off and leave the premises.
Minutes after the incident with security and the media the area was deemed safe as the suspicious package was recognized as a anti-theft device. The mall issued a statement about the incident- "following a report of a suspicious package, Orlando Premium Outlets – Vineland Ave closed as a standard precaution for the safety of our shoppers and employees. We have re-opened and business continues as usual."
