Bargain World, Umm.. Planet, Is Worse Than Expected

Which is it?

By Ken Storey

March 27, 2013 I shared a mannequin in the window of the Bargain Planet store on I-Drive (6454 International Drive, Orlando, FL 32819). The gift shop was recently remodeled and new flooring was installed.  The permit shows that the ‘remodel,’ i.e. new flooring, cost an estimated $2,000. The (floor) remodel appears finished. Merchandise is returning to the shelves and display windows.

What seems to not be returning is the name: Bargain World. The Bargain World franchise, known for it's over the top full-building murals, has filings on the property through March 22, but the name is being removed. The name is still prominent on the giant UFO over the main entrance (oh I-Drive!). But in between the "Bargain" and the "World" is a small yellow shape with the words ‘Bargain Planet’ on it. And in the store's windows, just the word "Bargain" remains. The name Bargain World can still be seen in the mural, emblazoned on the roller coaster in the mural.

The building has an estimated annual rent of $4 million. That includes the main 17,842 sq ft building and the 2,075sq ft building in front of it. One has to wonder how many 'three-for-ten-dollar" tourist shirts have to be sold to keep the place profitable.

Some windows are covered with interior facing walls. How is this approved zoning?

You can see the new flooring inside.

The ceiling inside is much better than the outside

Bargain World is still on the mural

The former Sports Dominator, now WhirlyDome, still has its signage just sitting in the parking lot next door.
