Food Truck at Disney | Truckeria Rolling Tacos

UPDATE 3-31-13, 3:38pm: Read the update here. The truck is owned by...

Walt Disney World is possibly creating its own line of food trucks for Disney Springs in a spot called "Food Truck Row." Before Disney confirmed Disney Springs (but not Food Truck Row), there had been appearances by a lobster food truck in Downtown Disney and several local trucks rented out by on-property hotels for private functions.

Since December 2012, there's been a mysterious threadbare food truck on Downtown Disney property off and on called Truckeria Rolling Tacos.

According to the truck's Facebook page, it has just *one* venue: Downtown Disney. This could be for one of three reasons:

  • It's a truck owned by two guys who are doing only one venue right now to get their feet wet, learn the ropes, and get used to running the truck by themselves. Later they will add more venues. Or more nights at Downtown Disney.
  • Disney will only work with local trucks that *only* appear at Downtown Disney
  • This truck is owned by Disney

The design of the truck is just odd for Orlando. With a few exceptions, most trucks in this city have screamingly loud/busy wraps. Not a bad thing. Just stating a fact. Truckeria has a surprisingly simple and lovely look with just *four* design elements:

  • flat black paint job
  • one hanging banner (the retro type design isn't bad)
  • backlit-type sign
  • chalk menu board

Perhaps the owners have good taste. Perhaps they work with a good graphic designer. Or maybe all four design elements can be easily removed and replaced with new design elements, depending on the locale of the truck (perhaps it will appear at hotels?) or trends (out with cookie truck and in with nacho truck?). The ability to not only switch up your menu but switch up the entire business of one truck would be helpful to Disney. Paint the truck a color and have these removable elements to fit the event. Great idea.

Going back to the Facebook page, which is even more threadbare than the truck, there are a few oddities:

  • There are only two photos: (1) the truck, (2) a person smiling wearing a branded t-shirt.
  • No owner names are listed in the "about" section.
  • Two first names, Chad and Trevor, are mentioned in a couple posts. It's not stated if they are owners, employees, cast members, anything.
  • The menu listed is so basic it hurts: "Pork, chicken, and mahi mahi tacos! Chips and salsa too!" This could be because Disney wants this truck to just have a basic menu for some reason. Or it could be that this will soon be the "taco truck" of the Food Truck Row lineup.
  • On February 17, it was announced the truck would be "taking a break for a little while again =( ...." The only update since then was to thank a Tampa food blogger for her mention in her 18 hours in Orlando post

Source: On March 31, 2013 Droolius retweeted a tweet sent to himself and TastyChomps from another Tampa Bay food blogger showing a photo of this truck. This is the first time we knew about this truck.
