Village Park Senior Housing Development Across From Winter Park Village and Heritage Park Begins Construction (Photos)
By Ken Storey
Yesterday we took a look at CNL’s new Heritage Park development on Denning Drive and Morse Boulevard in Winter Park. Today we're going to take a look at another new project that is directly across the street from Heritage Park. 550 N Denning Ave has long been the site of a never realized development. A large parking structure was built in 2007 for the originally proposal but the recession soon hit and the development was cancelled.
The site has sat empty ever since. Atlantic Housing of Winter Park purchased the property in 2012 for $5.7million. They are currently building Village Park; a four story, 105 unit affordable senior housing development. The former owner, Winter Park based Denning Partners, retains the rights to 125 spaces in the parking structure for a possible future development on property they own across Canton Avenue from the 550 N Denning property.
The Village Park will feature a large private park area for residents on the southern leg of the property. The park will have a walking trail, vegetable garden, and two pavilions. With large windows, metal roof sections, balconies, and lap siding the development will be a prime example of the Florida Vernaular style. Along Denning the building will be four stories tall with it ‘stepping down’ the closer it gets to the single story private residential properties on Swoope.
