Uber Statement on Bipartisan Passage of House Bill 221 by House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee

Members of the Florida House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee today voted 14 to 1 on House Bill 221, which establishes the regulatory framework for the operation of transportation network companies (TNCs) in the State of Florida.

 

The following statement should be attributed to Javi Correoso, Public Affairs Manager, Uber Florida:

 

“The bipartisan vote today on HB 221 by the Florida House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee is the first step toward ensuring ridesharing has a permanent place in Florida. Uber has become an integral part of local transportation systems, and this legislation will help expand opportunities to better connect communities. 

 

“A statewide framework would increase consumer choices for safe rides across the state, keep residents and visitors moving, and further empower drivers to take charge of their economic future. Thank you to Reps. Chris Sprowls (R-Clearwater), James Grant (R-Tampa) and all co-sponsors for championing this bill in the Florida House.”

 

The bill establishes minimum insurance requirements for TNCs, requires thorough background screening standards for TNC drivers, and includes consumer protection provisions that strengthen the community of riders and drivers in Florida. In addition, the bill provides regulatory certainty for TNC services in Florida by replacing a patchwork of conflicting local regulations with a unified statewide framework. The next stop for HB 221 is the House Government and Accountability Committee.
