The Orlando Science Center’s 6th annual Otronicon (Orlando ElecTronic InteractiveTechnology Convention) is January 14-17, 2011. It brings together the entertaining world of consumer video games with a behind-the-scenes view of the art, technology and science that form the foundation and the future of both the interactive entertainment and simulation industries. Admission to Otronicon is included in the Orlando Science Center admission, which is $17 for adults and $12 for kids (ages 3-11).
More than 12,000 people attend Otronicon each year. The experience has the opportunity to inspire a child’s interest in science and tech careers through the appeal of video games. There will also be classes in video game creation as well as exclusive peeks at simulators created by experts in the field. Workshops will include opportunities to explore 3D modeling, animation and game design. Simulation areas will examine how video game technology is being used in the military, medical, sports and industrial fields to create better pilots, drivers, doctors, and athletes. There will also be competitions and open play for videogames on multiple platforms and areas to explore video games as art. Otronicon is also well know for immersing guests in intense game experiences like playing Rock Band on an actual drum kit on a stage before a live audience or participating in Halo tournaments projected on the 8-story screen of the Dr. Phillips CineDome.
