The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) will reveal the winners of its Picturing My Florida photo contest to the public at its 1st Thursdays event on April 5. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the five artists who received the most votes and view their work before the Picturing My Florida gallery display opens on April 21.
Reflections: Paintings of Florida 1865 - 1965 from the Collection of Cici and Hyatt Brown opens April 21 as well and is drawn from the largest knownprivate collection of Florida-based art in existence today. This exhibition features masterworks by well-known artists including Thomas Hart Benton, George Inness, Martin Johnson Heade, Herman Herzog, Frederic Remington and N.C. Wyeth.
Picturing My Florida began as an online photography display that included more than one hundred entries from amateur and professional photographers. More than five thousand Facebook users voted for their favorite images to be featured in the OMA gallery display that complements the upcoming exhibition Reflections: Paintings of Florida 1865 - 1965 from the Collection of Cici and Hyatt Brown. The simultaneous presentation of the exhibition and gallery display offers visitors a chance to explore the transformation of Florida's visual environment.
"This was the first time we have engaged the public to curate a gallery display," said Linda Cegelis, public relations and marketing manager for the OMA, "It was fun to watch our Fans interact with each other on-line and proudly share how they see Florida today. We are thrilled to showcase this photography at the OMA."
