Maker Space Coming to Orlando Science Center

A $750,000 Cultural Facilities grant is helping the Orlando Science Center at 777 E Princeton St, Orlando, FL 32803 (MAP) reate a new Maker Space and update one classroom space for a new STEM Center. The money is to be used for the acquisition, renovation and construction of the maker space.

A maker space is a place in which people with shared interests, especially in computing or technology, can gather to work on projects while sharing ideas, equipment, and knowledge. Features in some spaces include 3D printers, laser cutters, various milling devices, and more.

Orlando has several maker spaces:
1. MakerFX Makerspace (WEBMAP)
2. FACTUR (WEB | MAP
3. FamiLAB (WEB | MAP
4. Melrose Center (WEB | MAP

The facility must remain a cultural facility for 10 years following the execution of the grant award agreement according to what's known as a Restrictive Covenant it has with the City, the State of Florida and the Department of State and Division of Cultural Affairs.

Orlando Science Center is leasing its building from City of Orlando through December 2046.
