Food Trend: Is Pie the next Food Truck, Artisanal Soda, FroYo, Pizza Lolly Pop, Cake Pop, Cupcake, Mini Cupcake, Cookie on a Stick, Donut or Mini Donut?

I love keeping up with food trends and here's another one! NPR's Bonny Wolf, who admits herself that "Every year, I predict the death of the cupcake. I'm always wrong.", has a new one. She says that in 2011 the pie wil be making a spot for itself on the food trend map. Will pie join the ranks of artisanal sodadonutcupcakemini cupcakecake-popfroyo, cookie on a stickpizza lolly popmilkshakes and food trucks? We shall see.

"Trend-spotters are calling pie the food of the year. Texas and New York restaurants offer pie happy hours. Pies are showing up at weddings, and pie shops are opening in a neighborhood near you. Pies come in sweet and savory, maxi and mini, deep dish and deep-fried." (Source, Source)

We know Banana's Diner and that new burger place downtown (the one that replaced The Black Olive) are doing some pie business already. Wonder if we'll see pies start popping up in local cupcake-heavy bakeries like Blue Bird Bake ShopBee's Knees Sweet TreatsRaphsodic Bakery and Sweet by Good Golly Miss Holly.
