The Sixth Annual Great Duck Derby will take place Saturday,
February 23, 2013 at Winter Park’s Mead Botanical Garden. The day will kick off at 10am when the famed
Peabody Hotel Ducks will parade towards to the amphitheater. Activates are planned throughout the day
including hayrides, animals from the Central Florida Zoo, a bounce house, face
painting, and live music. The main event
though is of course, the duck races. For
$5 each or 5 for $20 you can adopt a small yellow duck for the races. A “Duck-o-ration” duck painting workshop is
also planned so that the racing ducks are personalized. The Sponsor Big Duck Race will be the first
race of the day at 11:15a with the Family Duck Races planned for 11:45a, 12:20p,
and 1:40p.
This is the perfect event to rediscover Mead Gardens. The gardens are in the middle of a multi-year remodel that will include a new amphitheater, butterfly garden, and naturecenter. Proceeds from the Great Duck
Derby benefit educational programs at the Mead Botanical Garden.
